September Garden Chores

Garden Chores are a way of life.  If you do just one a day you will find that your garden will benefit from it and you will reap what you sow!

  • Plant broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage
  • Plant lettuce and green in two week intervals for continued harvest.
  • Feed tomatoes, peppers, eggplant one last time before frost.
  • Clean out any old or diseased debris in the garden.  Debris harbors insects and disease.
  • Take cuttings from tender perennials.
  • Continue to care for fruit trees by clipping any dead wood out.
  • Work compost over to get it ready for fall application.
  • Keep weeds under control.  One crabgrass weed can produce 10,000 seeds in a season.
  • Purchase new clippers and pruners or sharpen clippers to be ready for winter pruning (planning ahead keeps you from scrambling when its time to get the job done).
  • Reseed lawns now to get a good root establishment for winter.
